British Heart Foundation

Since its launch six decades ago, the foundation has become the premier UK charity funding research into heart disease and has helped halve deaths since the 1960s. But one in four people still die, that’s 150,000 deaths, each year of heart disease, which continues to drive the foundation’s extensive research funding for the seven million with heart-related diseases. It awarded £108.4m in research grants in 2017 and supports £440m of research projects in the UK.

Notable recent research includes work on the links between air pollution and heart disease. The foundation also trained 195,000 people in one-day cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) courses.
